LARDER LAKE WINTER GOLF

<< -- Back Home

The Larder Lake Golf Classic 9-Hole Golf Tournament has just finished and the plans are already in motion for the 5th year in March/April 2003. Once the ice has lifted, the lake becomes a big shiny ice sheet just waiting for us to play on it.

"I challenge anyone to take the GREEN hat from me." - Steve Malciw

Take the green hat away, I dare you!

To play, all you need is some old clubs, old balls (painted black) and a secret ingredient to help keep the cold out (Jack Danial was my partner). The rules are simple... keep your own score and may the best cheater win. Some brave souls use spikes on their boots so they don't slip around when they swing the clubs, others claim that slipping gives them excusses for bad shots.

The legion gang are the brains behind the affair. They organize the event, get the prizes and judge the contest. This year should prove to be a great show. The 1st or 2nd weekend in April looks good. Watch for details to follow.

Last year about 85 locals braved the bitter winds and played against the elements to help support the beautification of Larder lake, the proceeds raised go to help the Walleye Hatchery and make the town look good.

This years bragging rights go to Steve Malciw, a green hat instead of a green jacket. The club raised about $1,700., we had about 85 golfers.
